Ongaro & Co SA is committed to pursuing a corporate policy based on the three pillars of sustainability.
Social
The wellbeing of employees is fundamental for the success of our company. We therefore comply with all legal obligations regarding wages and social security contributions, strictly following the regulations of the collective employment agreement.
In our entrepreneurial vision, every employee is entitled to conditions that not only meet the minimum standards required by law but go beyond them. Fair remuneration fosters an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect, with positive implications for company efficiency and employee loyalty, avoiding the loss of know-how.
Despite being in a traditionally male sector, our company is sensitive to the reconciliation of career and family life, promotes equal opportunities and an inclusive corporate culture.
Ecological
The company has embarked on a path of ecological sustainability, which is reflected in various strategic and investment decisions.
We have expanded the photovoltaic power plant, bringing the power to 320 kWp, with the aim of increasing the supply of renewable energy, thus reducing the purchase of electricity. For the remaining energy needs, the company relies exclusively on certified renewable sources, such as hydropower. The most recent investment consists of purchasing large 400 kWh batteries to store the energy produced and not used. In this way, self-consumption is maximised.
Since 1974 we have been using an advanced system to recover almost all the water used in our production processes. We are committed to minimising waste and guaranteeing responsible and sustainable water management.
Dust management is one of the priorities in protecting the health of employees and the environment. Each workstation is equipped with extractors that collect the dust generated during processing. This not only preserves the health of our workers, but also contributes to keeping the work environment clean and safe, reducing environmental impact and improving general operating conditions.
From a technological and processing point of view, several aspects have been improved. For instance, when treating rough surfaces we have replaced the traditional flaming process with shot blasting, thus eliminating the use of propane gas and oxygen. In addition, together with the manufacturers we are actively searching for alternative alloys for diamond discs, looking for solutions with minimal use of heavy metals. Our excavation and transport vehicles are equipped with particle filters, limiting the emission of fine particles into the atmosphere. Finally, in collaboration with our suppliers, we always aim to use electric motors for lifting equipment, wheel loaders, forklifts and excavators.
Economy
In our commitment towards sustainable growth, we prefer to collaborate with local suppliers or those from neighbouring countries, in order to reduce the environmental impact linked to the transport of goods. Promoting the local economy and reducing distances are fundamental steps for implementing a more responsible supply chain.
The continuous search for innovative and sustainable products is at the centre of our efforts. Our goal is to both diversify and improve our offer: by continuing to respond to market demand, we adapt to the new needs of society and the climate challenge.
To this end, we actively collaborate with prestigious academic institutions, such as ETH Zurich, to develop cutting-edge solutions in the use of natural stone.
